• They’re back. Third Thursdays are returning to Kennett Square, beginning May 16 and extending into October. Kennett Collaborative works with the Borough to close down the street to allow for outdoor dining, live music, extended shopping, cultural celebrations, and other fun activities for families and neighbors. Kennett Collaborative said Chatham Financial will be the lead sponsor for one of Kennett Collaborative’s most beloved programs, Third Thursdays on State Street.
• Dermatology Partners will be providing free skin cancer screenings to new patients in May as part of National Skin Cancer Awareness Month. They will conduct a screening on Wednesday, May 22 at 6 Dickinson Drive, building 300, in Chadds Ford Township beginning at 8 a.m. Phone 610-558-1200 to make an appointment.
• On Saturday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Friends of Shiloh AME Church and cemetery will hold a ceremony in front of the Chester County Courthouse in West Chester to honor more than a dozen United States Colored Troops (USCT) Civil War veterans who are buried in an abandoned cemetery that was once part of Shiloh AME Church. Reversing 100 years of silence, the Sons of Union Veterans will present arms. Dr. Cheryl Renee Gooch, educator, and author of Hinsonville Heroes: Black Civil War Soldiers of Chester County, Pennsylvania will attend.
• The Chester County History Center will hold a book discussion Nature’s God: The Heretical Origins of the American Republic by Matthew Stewart. The discussion will focus on the origins of American democracy and how America’s founders intended to liberate us not just from one king but from the ghostly tyranny of supernatural religion. The discussion takes place on Thursday, May 30 from 10-11 a.m. This is a pay-as-you-wish event and will be conducted online and in person. Reserve a spot here. • Rachel Kohl Community Library is pleased to offer a home delivery service to residents of Bethel, Chester Heights, Chadds Ford, Concord, and Thornbury. Any resident who has a condition that makes them unable to visit the library can apply. The service is also available to caregivers whose responsibilities make library visits difficult. Volunteers, with the assistance of library staff, will select materials based on the number and type requested. Home-based patrons must be registered borrowers in good standing. The library will arrange for a first-time visit with a library staff member or volunteer to discuss eligibility, forms, materials of interest, and delivery schedules.
