Mushroom Festival Launches “Cute as a Button” Baby Photo Contest: Parents and Grandparents Invited to Enter

KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. — Is your little one the cutest mushroom in the patch? The 40th Annual Mushroom Festival is calling all proud parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to enter their tiniest family members in the 2025 Cute-As-A-Button (Mushroom) Baby Photo Contest, open now through August 31.

Held during the Mushroom Festival weekend on September 6–7, 2025, in the heart of Kennett Square—known as the Mushroom Capital of the World—this lighthearted photo contest invites families to share adorable snapshots of their babies and toddlers for a chance to be crowned Cutest Button, Crimini, or Portabella.

Here’s how it works:

Submit a baby photo (non-professional, digital preferred) by Aug. 31 at 11:59 p.m.

A $10 entry fee includes one photo submission

Categories:

  • Button: 6–15 months

  • Crimini: 15–24 months

  • Portabella: 24–36 months

Photos will be displayed at the “Cute-As-A-Button” booth near State and Union Streets during the festival.

Attendees “vote” for their favorites by dropping change into donation boxes or through the festival’s online platform.

Top vote-getters in each category will win a $50 gift card to The Growing Tree Toy Store in Kennett Square and be featured in the Chester County Press and on the Mushroom Festival website.

“This is one of the most beloved and smile-worthy traditions of the festival,” organizers said. “It’s a fun way to celebrate the community and support local nonprofits through your votes.”

All proceeds from the Mushroom Festival, including the baby photo contest, go to support local nonprofit organizations through a competitive grant process. Last year’s event drew thousands of visitors and distributed tens of thousands in community funding.

To enter your baby and learn more about the festival, visit www.mushroomfestival.org or the contest’s official Eventeny page. Only one photo per entry is allowed, and professional photos are not eligible.

So dig through your camera roll and get ready to share your little one’s biggest smile—because in Kennett Square, even mushrooms can be adorable.
