ChristianaCare picks up after Crozer

Wilmington-based ChristianaCare is picking up some of the slack from the closing of Crozer Hospital. Two of the outpatient locations Christiana will be taking over are the facilities at 300 and 500 Evergreen Drive in Concord Township.

ChristianaCare President & CEO Janice E. Nevin said, “As we work to meet the needs of our Delaware County neighbors, we are glad that ChristianaCare is able to take on these outpatient centers and provide stability and continuity of access to care for patients.”

As has been reported, Crozer Health filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, and the hospital closed, putting a strain on emergency services. The move by Christiana will take care of outpatient services.

The move is part of a larger expansion into Southeastern Pennsylvania. In addition to taking over the outpatient facilities in Concord, as well as others in Haverford, Broomall, and Media, a primary care facility and a neighborhood hospital are planned for a summer opening in West Grove, according to Jennifer Schwartz, Christiana’s chief strategy and legal officer. There will also be a facility in Aston planned for next year.

“We also continue to explore options for an additional Delaware County neighborhood hospital location,” Schwartz said.

Christiana won the bidding to take over the Crozer facilities. The bid was $50.3 million. The sale is subject to court approval and is expected to close soon.
