HBO closing 2 roads in Chadds Ford

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced today that HBO will close two state highways in Chadds Ford Township, beginning Monday, July 8.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Monday, July 8, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, Beaver Dam Road will be closed and detoured between Brandywine Creek Road and Beaver Valley Road. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Brandywine Creek Road, Route 92 (Ramsey Road), and Beaver Valley Road.
  • Monday, July 8, from 6: a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, Smithbridge Road will be closed and detoured between Ridge Road and Heyburn Road. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Ridge Road and U.S. 202.

Local access will be maintained up to the work zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather-dependent.

HBO will complete these projects under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

Blue Pear no longer blue

The restaurant known as The Blue Pear will be reopening, but not as The Blue Pear. According to proprietor Nick Farrell, the restaurant will be called simply The Pear, and he hopes to open sometime in mid-September.

Farrell’s comments came after the Birmingham Township Board of Supervisors approved a Certificate of Appropriateness recommended by the township’s Historical and Architectural Review Board.

In a follow-up email, Farrell said the concept for The Pear is that of a “cozy, community-driven restaurant and bar.” There will be seasonal cocktails and a broad range of beers and wines.

“The food menu will consist of bar snacks, small plates, and elevated tavern foods — all while delivering the highest standards within hospitality,” he said.

Planned hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 3 to 9 p.m.; Friday 3-10 p.m. On Saturdays, The Pear will open at noon for brunch served until 4 p.m., then dinner service from 4 to 10 p.m.
