Coffee shop eyes Sept. 1 opening

Chadds Ford Business Association members got updates on two local businesses in the area during the CFBA’s June 1 lunch meeting. And one of those businesses is a coffee shop planned for the site of the former Bryn Mawr Trust Bank.

Casey Lafferty, who owns the little strip mall where the bank was and the U.S. Post Office still is, said Steve Sonsini, owner of what will be the Chadds Ford Coffee House, is eager to set up shop and hopes to open on Sept. 1.

As previously reported, one of the conditions for opening the coffee shop was that the rear lot had to be paved. Lafferty said that hasn’t happened yet but expects that to be taken care of soon. He added that the paving should only take about a day. Work on the interior, changing the bank into a coffee house, is expected to start in the middle of June.

Also during the meeting, CFBA member Frank Rupp who bought the old Dilworthtown Inn properties, said he now has a signed contract with Bryan Rogers, owner of Turks Head Sauce to lease the first floor of Jim Barnes’ former residence behind the Blue Pear. Rupp said it will serve breakfast and lunch. Barnes was the owner of the Dilworthtown Inn until his death in 2019.

Turks Head Sauce has an online presence selling hot sauce — https://www.turksheadsauce.com — and Rogers also operates a food truck, Rupp said. Renovations will be underway with an opening projected for autumn.
