Commissioners respond to Wolf announcement

With Gov. Tom Wolf announcing this afternoon that all of Pennsylvania will be deemed in the yellow zone by June 5, Chester County Commissioners have issued the following statement:

We are pleased that the governor has responded to our appeal to relax restrictions in Chester County, and on June 5, Chester County can begin to move forward in a safe and cautious way.

Our “Restore Chester County” program is rolling out next week to begin preparing businesses and organizations to re-open and informing residents of all safety measures that employers are using to welcome employees and customers back without fear.

Caution is the watchword for our yellow phase. Thank you all for your efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 during our red phase. We know the inevitable question is when will we get to “green?” It is our goal that Chester County will move to the green phase no later than the end of June. But we must all continue to make every effort to contain the coronavirus. Wear masks; continue social distancing, work from home if you can, and continue all hygiene recommendations. Heed the yellow phase restrictions so that Chester County is ready to “go green” safely by the end of June.

Roadwork for May 23-May 29

PennDOT has announced the following road projects, which are weather-dependent and could affect drivers in the greater Chadds Ford area during the week of May 23-May 29. Motorists are urged to allow extra time if they are traveling through one of the construction zones. Work schedules are subject to change.

On May 28, motorists should expect lane restrictions on Route 1 — between Parkersville Road in Pennsbury Township and Creek Road in Chadds Ford Township — for bridge inspections.

Bridge inspections will also cause lane restrictions on Route 52 — between Routes 1 and 926 — in Kennett Township on June 1.

Road construction will continue to cause lane closures on Route 1 — between Route 452 and Valley Road in Middletown Township — through June 30.

Bridge reconstruction continues to close Creek Road — between Riverbend Lane and Country Club Road from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. — in Birmingham Township. The closure is expected to continue through May.

Barrier installation will cause lane closures on Brandywine Creek Road — between Green Valley Road and Powell Road in Newlin Township — through June.

Lane restrictions on the Conchester Highway — between Routes 1 and Clayton Park Drive — will continue through Oct. 20, for reconstruction and widening.
