Arrest made in gas station robbery

Caln Township Police Department today responded to a reported robbery at the Turkey Hill gas station located on Bondsville Road which resulted in the arrest of two men who allegedly robbed a Thornbury Township gas station on Monday, according to a press release issued by Det. Lt. William Cahill of the Westtown-East Goshen Police Department.

According to the release, Joshua Alexander Foster, 27,  and Kyle Joseph Jones, 29, both of Newark, Del., were arrested.

Westtown-East Goshen police responded to the Lukoil at 1209 Wilmington Pike, Thornbury Township on Monday, Jan. 7 at 7:09 p.m. for a reported armed robbery. The owner of the Lukoil reported that he was the sole occupant when one of the suspects entered the small gas station wearing a tan color mask, black hooded sweatshirt, orange t-shirt with a circular print design on the left chest, yellow and brown gloves, khaki pants and blue color athletic shoes with orange soles, Cahill said. The suspect approached the owner with a knife held in his right hand and demanded that the owner “open the register.” As the owner opened the register to collect the cash, the suspect went to a storage cabinet and removed cartons of cigarettes. He then ordered the owner to give him the cash drawer and the owner complied. he left the store with the entire cash drawer, U.S. currency, coins and cartons of cigarettes. No injuries were suffered during the robbery.

When Caln Township police responded today to the reported robbery at the Turkey Hill gas station, a witness told police that the offender left in a dark color Chevy Malibu and this vehicle description was broadcasted to all Chester County law enforcement.

Detectives created a crime alert that was sent to all law enforcement throughout the Delaware Valley and a short time later Detectives received calls from the Delaware State Police Troop 2 and Cecil County, Md. Sheriff’s Office. Soon after it was discovered that the offenders in the Lukoil robbery had committed similar gas station robberies since Jan. 6, in Delaware and Maryland.

Police arrested the driver of the vehicle, Joshua Alexander Foster, 27, and Kyle Joseph Jones, 29, both of Newark, Del. The vehicle was seized and relocated to the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department.

As a result of this joint investigation by the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department, Caln Township Police Department, Tredyffrin Township Police Department, Delaware State Police and Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department charged Foster and Jones with robbery, conspiracy, aggravated assault, simple assault, retail theft, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, prohibited offensive weapons, possessing instruments of crime, harassment and disorderly conduct.

Foster and Jones were transported to District Court 15-2-03 and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge William Kraut who set bail at $300,000. Both were remanded to Chester County Prison and the preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 17.
