Around Town June 28

Pam Lau, who’ll be operating Chadds, a soon to open café in The Barn Shops, serves some ice cream during an open house at the Barn Shops last Saturday.

• The coffee isn’t ready, but the beans are roasting. Chadds, a new coffee shop soon to open in the Barn Shops, was giving a hint of what’s to come last Saturday during an open house at the Chadds Ford landmark. Pam Lau, formerly of Talula’s Table, said she’ll be baking scones and other sweet treats once the shop officially opens at the end of July. She said the sweets will offer a contrast to the Romano’s Original Stromboli that will also be available. Chadds is scheduled to open at the end of July.

Donna Kleinman, of Bike Kennett, gives a helmet to a young rider.

• The wheels are rolling to make Kennett Square more welcoming to pedestrians and bicyclists. Members of Bike Kennett cut the ribbon on some new bike racks in the borough and a new tool station. The racks are at the library. The tool station is at Anchor Life and Fitness Center on Broad Street. The business donated the station that includes an air pump and tools for minor repairs. Bike Kennett also gave out bicycle safety helmets to younger riders during a Third Thursday event in Kennett.

• Chadds Ford Township supervisors will not have a regular meeting in July. That meeting would have been on July 3 but that session was canceled. The board will have its work session at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 25.

• The Rachel Kohl Library is offering a class in italic calligraphy this summer. Learn italic calligraphy with Pam Bennett, a member of the Philadelphia Calligraphers’ Society, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on July 10. Register at the library or call 610-358-3445 ext. 2. Please bring your own ruler and pencil.

• The Heather Pierson Trio is coming to the Friends Folk Club on Friday, July 13. Heather Pierson is an award-winning pianist, multi-genre singer/songwriter, arranger, bandleader, and performer. Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door. Children 12 and under are free. Doors open at 7 p.m., and concert will start at 7:30. The concert will be held at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church 116 Lancaster Pike Oxford, PA 19363. Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items which will be given to the local area food cupboards.

Adopt-a-Pet June 28

Adopt-a-Pet June 28

The following animals are ready to be adopted from the Brandywine Valley SPCA in West Chester.

Lilly

Lilly

Lilly is a fun-loving 6-year old with the heart of a puppy. Her love for giving kisses is just one of her many heartwarming features, along with her adorable markings and floppy ears. Lilly is a total sweetheart, and she just asks for a home with older children (8+) where she can be an only pet. Lilly can be adopted at a fee you name through Sunday, July 1. In addition, all large adult dogs (1year old or older and weighing 40 pounds or more) are just $4 to adopt June 30 through July 8 in our Independence Day promotion.

Drama

 Drama

Her name may be Drama, but her personality begs to differ. This five-year old beauty is laid back and quite independent. Drama spends most of her day snuggled somewhere cozy, and while she does enjoy batting a toy around now and then, she’d prefer to keep things low-key. Drama is friendly with other animals, but she’s a bit shy so asks for a home with older children (10+). Drama can be adopted at a fee you name through Sunday, July 1st. In addition, all adult cats (6 months old or older) are just $4 to adopt June 30 through July 8 in our Independence Day promotion. å
