• At the schools this weekend: On Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17, it’s the annual Chadds Ford Elementary School Art Sale and Show featuring works by dozens of local and regional professional artists. The event is free, and 30 percent of the sales go toward educational enrichment programs at the school On March 15, 16 and 17, Unionville High School presents the Rogers and Hammerstein Broadway classic, “The King and I.” Tickets are $14 at the door, $12 for students and seniors.

• Dining by Design: Nature Displayed on the Dinner Table, a new exhibit at Winterthur, opens April 1. Winterthur calls the exhibit a “visual feast of flora and fauna.” It takes a fresh look at the history of dining and dinnerware from the 1600s onward and celebrates how hosts and hostesses have brought the natural world into their dining rooms. Everything from painted butterflies and hand-modeled flowers to tureens in the shapes of the foods served in them will be on view, set among a fascinating range of ceramic and silver tableware. • Family Promise of Southern Chester County presents An Evening of Promise on Saturday, April 21, 7 p.m. at the Kennett Square Country Club. The event is designed to help raise awareness and provide hope for the homeless in Southern Chester County. Tickets are $65 per person or $125 per couple. Family Promise helps children and families achieve lasting self-sufficiency and stability by providing shelter, meals and comprehensive support until they can find sustainable housing.

• In collaboration with the Curtis Institute of Music, Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center is pleased to welcome Wanchi, violin, and Jordan Dodson, guitar on Monday, April 2 at 7 p.m. This is the first in a series of three spring concerts featuring talented classical music artists appearing on the Uptown! stage by special arrangement with Curtis on Tour, the Nina von Maltzahn Global Touring Initiative of the Curtis Institute of Music. The April 2 program features solo and duet performances, including music by Antônio Carlos Jobim, Vivian Fung, Elliot Cole, Niccolo Paganini, Roland Dyens and Astor Piazzolla. • The Cavalcade of Bands Honor Band has been selected to march in the 130th Rose parade next Jan. 1. Kennett and Unionville High School students will kick off fundraising efforts at The Market at Liberty Place in Kennett Square on Tuesday, April 3, and then the first Tuesday of each month through the end of 2018. KUBB — the Kennett Unionville Band Boosters — will receive 15 percent of the sales on each of these Tuesdays. Come out and support a great cause while enjoying a pleasant night out with your neighbors.

• Longwood Fire Co. announced that it promoted Matt Eick to EMS captain. Eick is a 16-year EMS veteran who, according to Chief A.J. McCarthy, “is a valued and experienced member of Longwood. He is certainly the right person to lead our EMS component.”

• Old Swedes Historic Site — in Wilmington — is now open for the season and invites people to Step into History. Dating from 1698, Old Swedes Church, the 1690 Hendrickson House Museum, and the 1638 Burial Ground are open in March for tours Wednesday through Friday, 1-4 p.m., and Saturdays 10 am-4 p.m., at 606 Church St., Wilmington, DE 19801. The site is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, April through December. On Thursday, March 22, Kim Burdick, will present an illustrated lecture on ‘Louise du Pont Crowninshield: Preservation Pioneer’ at 7 pm in Old Swedes Church. The public is welcome to this free program.

• A reminder from Delaware County Council: The last day to register to vote in the May 15 primary is Monday, April 16. The deadline for absentee ballot applications is 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, and the deadline for civilians to return a voted absentee ballot is 5 p.m. Friday, May 11.
