Music on the Brandywine

Music on the Brandywine
The Brandywine River Museum presents Music on the Brandywine March 7 and May 9. The two programs feature musicians from Astral Artists, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to discover exceptionally talented emerging classically trained artists.

Brandywine Conservancy Executive Director Virginia Logan says, “It is a joy to experience the stellar talent of these exciting new performers in such a beautiful setting and acoustically live space.”  Astral Artists’ founder and president, Vera Wilson, adds, “I strongly believe that all art disciplines are inspired by one another and so it was wonderful to receive an invitation from the Brandywine River Museum to present our superb emerging Astral artists to their members.”

On March 7, Grammy-nominated pianist Andrius Zlabys, began his early piano instruction in his native Lithuania and has also studied at the Curtis Institute of Music. He has appeared as a

On May 9, pianist Michael Djupstrom and violist Ayane Kozasa will present a program of works by Enescu, Porter, Schubert and an original composition by Djupstrom entitled Walimai. Composer and pianist Djupstrom has won awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Composers Forum. Growing up, surrounded by art and culture, at age 8, his Mother knowing her son loved to draw, enrolls him in art classes at the Delaware Art Museum , Wilmington, DE, Center for Creative Arts in Yorklyn, DE and at age 12, he began an apprenticeship with well known artist William O. Bill was awarded the Kennett Education Art Award in 1998, the same year he was accepted into the prestigious four-year Certificate Program at Philadelphia’s, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and earns his Certificate of Fine Arts (double major in Painting). Basciani classically trained in the Brandywine tradition, has also created his own style of expression, while maintaining the passion for the local culture that has become so well known. Bill’s paintings have been collected in personal collections across the U.S. and abroad.  Whether it be on trips to Europe, out at the farm or at his studio, Basciani continues to pursue his passion for capturing the characteristics, fantasies and beauty of life.

John Hannafin is the dreamer and impressionist oil painter that seeks to connect with his fellow beings and express life’s beauty through uplifting colors, energetic brushstrokes and inspired artwork.  Growing up in West Chester, PA , he had a deep love for drawing and art from a very young age. Though he majored in economics, he decided to learn painting and pursue his passion full time.  While creating an art publishing business representing other artists, he developed his own personal style and eventually focused whole heartedly on his own art. In 2007, Hannafin began an on-going project, “Art Across America”, where he traveled around the country painting and filming national parks.  His adventures and artwork have been featured on NBC, ABC, Fox News, Public Television and in several print publications.  These creative excursions evolved into several shows at the Chester County Historical Society, hardcover book and DVD, extended stays in Arizona, Florida and even to his ancestral home in Ireland.  John is also known for his unique interpretation of historic architecture, often twisting and turning buildings to imbue them with a sense of spirit and character.  Inspired by music, nature and many artists of the past and present, John Hannafin seeks to follow his heart and make meaningful, original and authentic creations that uplift, soothe and inspire others.  When he is not traveling around the country, he enjoys painting his hometown of West Chester,  PA.

William Basciani and John Hannafin have signed limited edition Giclée printings available for sale.
