Cell phone users in Concord Township may be getting a signal boost. Supervisors there heard, and concluded, a conditional use request by AT&T for a tower on Smithbridge Road. A decision is scheduled for the supervisors’ May 6 board meeting.
The hearing itself was brief, with the applicant’s attorney briefly summarizing the testimony of three witnesses who, in turn, verified the summaries. Township solicitor Hugh Donaghue recommended that the supervisors approve the procedure.
If approved — both conditional use and land development — the tower will be situated at 725 Smithbridge, be 140 feet tall and will be able to handle three other carriers as well as emergency services’ broadcast needs.
It will be an unmanned facility. Only monthly maintenance will be needed. The Planning Commission has already recommended approval.
This is the third location considered during the last few years and the one considered the least objectionable, according to Donaghue.
One of the other locations was shot down by resident and Zoning Hearing Board concerns and the second site was nixed because it was too close to an historic structure, Donaghue said.
Prior to the April 29 hearing, supervisors approved several resolutions. One was for Neighborhood III at Maris Grove and another for traffic light installation along Route 322 at Matson Road.
