Heyburn work starts Monday

If all goes well, Heyburn Road will reopen at the end of October. Chadds Ford Township engineer Mike Schneider told supervisors during their Sept. 27 workshop that work is scheduled to begin on the road Monday, Oct. 2 and expected to finish by Oct. 31.

Heyburn closed earlier this summer when a culvert failed, and a piece of the road collapsed. Schneider said earlier that work on the road could not start before a new culvert was fabricated. While the new culvert is still being made, he said last night that it’s close enough to completion that work on the road can begin.

“We’re on target to reopen the road Oct. 31, maybe sooner,” he said.

Other business

• Matt DiFillipo, township secretary and assistant manager, was appointed the interim manager replacing Amanda Serock who announced her resignation earlier this month. Serock will become township manager in Concord Township.

• The board also voted to recommend Fire Chief Tom Nelling to replace Serock as the township’s emergency management coordinator. The recommendation goes to the governor’s office for approval.
