Historical society seeking South Asian input

Are you a member of the Indian, Pakistani, or Greater South Asian community and presently a resident of Chester County? If so, the Chester County Historical Society (CCHS) is extending an invitation to share your story.

With the generosity of funders to the Dr. Mian Jan Fellowship, CCHS is pleased to expand its permanent collections in the area of South Asian culture. Representation of this community at CCHS will help to share the diversity of the people who live in Chester County, a CCHS press release said.

CCHS is looking for the opportunity to conduct oral history interviews and to collect genealogical information and/or photographs that may be scanned. The information collected will become part of CCHS’s research archives. It will be available to researchers in perpetuity and possibly used in exhibitions and programs. Confidentiality is assured, the release said.

Sarah Alderman, a CCHS fellow, is an experienced documentarian and will be recording oral histories with our participants. Alderman is presently completing her bachelor of arts degree in anthropology and will be advised in her fellowship work by professor Dr. Valerian DeSousa.

To arrange an oral history session or obtain more information, contact Sarah Alderman at 610-858-9056 or sfalderman@gmail.com or Ellen Endslow, director of collections/curator for CCHS, at 610-692-4800, ext. 257, or eendslow@chestercohistorical.org.

This fellowship was made possible through the support of Dallas Green, Lin Ziering, Drs. Mian and Ambereen M. Jan, Andrew E. Dinniman, Friends of State Senator Andrew Dinniman, Robert Vito, and West Chester Cardiology, P.C.

CCHS – ChesterCoHistorical.org – is located at 225 N. High Street, West Chester, Pa., 19380.
