The Newark Art Alliance networking event is organized to create opportunities for people to explore creativity while building community through the arts.

Follow-up event aims to connect artists, employers, mentors, and emerging professionals

LogoNew179NEWARK — Just weeks after highlighting how the Newark Arts Alliance continues to serve as a creative hub for the community, the organization is taking another step toward strengthening Delaware’s creative economy by hosting a Creative Professions Networking Event on May 29.

The event, scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Newark Arts Alliance’s Louviers Drive location, is designed to bring together artists, designers, writers, performers, museum professionals, employers, and aspiring creatives looking to build professional relationships and explore career opportunities. Although it is not a hiring event, the organizers want to help people take the next step by working with others who are going the same direction.

The networking event reflects the same mission that has guided the Newark Arts Alliance since its founding in 1993 — creating opportunities for people to explore creativity while building community through the arts. Over the years, the organization has grown beyond gallery exhibitions to include classes, workshops, outreach programs, camps, community events and professional development opportunities for local artists.

Building Career Pathways Through the Arts

While many people associate arts organizations with exhibitions and performances, Newark Arts Alliance leaders say the creative sector encompasses a broad range of professions.

The May 29 event will welcome professionals involved in visual arts, graphic design, digital media, writing, music, theater, museum studies and related creative fields. Organizers hope the gathering will help attendees discover mentorship opportunities, learn about potential career paths and establish valuable professional connections.

The event is being organized by Kyleigh Slack, Newark Arts Alliance’s graphic design and digital marketing intern, alongside Executive Director Pamela Draper.

Employers and creative professionals are encouraged to bring business cards and be prepared to share information about employment opportunities, internships, freelance work and collaborative projects.

Supporting a Growing Creative Economy

The networking event comes as arts organizations across Delaware continue emphasizing the role creativity plays in workforce development and economic growth.

The Newark Arts Alliance already serves hundreds of students annually through classes and workshops while providing exhibition space and sales opportunities for local artists. The organization’s galleries showcase work created by artists within a 25-mile radius of Newark, reinforcing its commitment to supporting the local creative community.

By creating opportunities for artists and employers to connect directly, organizers hope the networking event will strengthen the professional side of the region’s creative community while helping participants expand their networks.

More Than a Networking Event

The gathering also reflects the Alliance’s broader goal of bringing people together through shared creative interests.

In its April profile, Town Square Delaware highlighted the organization’s role as a welcoming space where artists, writers, musicians and community members can collaborate and learn from one another. The upcoming networking event builds on that foundation by focusing specifically on career development and professional relationships.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided during the event.  The event is also just for people 21 and older.
