Birmingham in brief

Birmingham Township supervisors heard an updated version of a proposal for a car wash being considered for the old CVS store in the Dilworthtown Crossing Shopping Center.

However, the applicant, Spotless Car Wash, will have to return with another update following concerns expressed by the board, specifically by Supervisors’ Chairman Scott Boorse. The traffic engineer for the project, Guy DiMartino, said the site could accommodate about 22 cars, but Boorse expressed concerns over that.

Boorse said he was concerned about the stacking of vehicles and the internal traffic flow at the site, and how vehicles could properly negotiate ingress and egress. He suggested the applicant come back after a traffic study is done and, possibly, with a plan that shows a different internal traffic flow.

Other business

The board voted to support the Radley Run Mansion House Foundation in its plan to take part in the Chester County Town Tours & Village Walk planned for July 16, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Supervisors also voted to support the township’s RPOS plan to seek a $42,000 grant to replace fencing around Birmingham Hill.

The board also voted to renew the township’s contract with Verizon FiOS to serve the municipality and voted to advertise a renewal ordinance for Comcast Cable.

Supervisors also made a change to Police Chief Thomas Nelling’s contact with the township. Because Nelling is going to use Medicare for his health insurance, he will be taken off the township’s insurance policy as of June 1. To offset that, his hourly rate will go from $62.50 per hour to $72.90 per hour. Supervisor Michael Shiring said, “This is a net benefit to the township.”
