The project to replace Twin Bridges over the Brandywine Creek on S. Creek Road is expected to get started sometime this winter and there will be road closures for possibly 20 months. However, there is no construction timetable available yet.

“I would not expect to see a road closure until late winter or early spring,” said PennDOT spokesman Brad Rudolf. “Our design schedule anticipated a closure for two seasons, but the contractor may have different means/methods,” meaning the schedule for the closure is yet to be determined.

Rudolph said the project was awarded to Haines & Kibblehouse on Jan. 3 for $15,160,000, $500,000 below the estimate.

PennDOT will issue a press release as the construction gets closer. The project currently calls for replacing the existing bridge, reconstruction of the approaches, guide rail replacement, and upgrades to signing and pavement markings.

Formal public discussions about the project have been going on since 2008 when the span was deemed “structurally poor.” In 2015 work was anticipated to start in 2019 and take about 18 months.
