Cupid might be busy this month, but so are artists, galleries, and festivals throughout the Brandywine Valley. Favorite shows return and new exhibitions go on view all month long. Share the love!

The Art Show takes over the Malvern Retreat House Wednesday, February 1st through Sunday, February 5th. With over 100 juried artists and over 2,000 pieces of art in all mediums, it is a wonderful opportunity to see a wide variety of artwork in one location. Triumphant Abstractions, Mary Kane, Church Street Gallery

The 50th Notre Dame Fine Art Show & Sale is open to the public through Sunday, February 5th. This year, a Featured Artists Collective brings back past Featured Artists, along with over 100 local artists showing more than 1,000 pieces of art in all styles. The entire show is also available to view in the online gallery. The Hockessin Art Festival brings together over 20 local artists to benefit the Wilmington & Western Railroad. Visitors can also take a ride on the Art Festival Express, their unique 1929 Pennsylvania Railroad "Doodlebug" railcar. The Evening Preview will be held on Friday, February 24th from 5 to 8 pm, and the show will continue February 25th and 26th. Follow the beat of your own drum to Djembe: The Art of African Drumming, a solo exhibition curated by Ed Rahme at the Oxford Arts Alliance, on view from Friday, February 3rd to Friday, February 24th. An Opening Performance will be held on February 3rd from 6:00 to 6:30 pm and 7:00 to 7:30 pm featuring Pape Demba "Paco" Samb, Master Hand Drummer from Senegal. The exhibition will celebrate the beauty of rhythm and the artistry involved in creating drums. In the Emerging Artist Gallery, Grace Patti from Oxford Area High School presents her solo show Finding My Way. The Oxford Arts Alliance is at 38 S. Third Street, Oxford, PA. Explore the juxtaposition of art and narrative in Speaking in Tongues at The Main Line Art Center through February 24th. Curated by Michael Clemmons, curator of the Colored Girls Museum, this exhibition brings together artists Toni Kersey, Patricia Renee Thomas, and Lavett Ballard. Using a diverse range of media, the exhibition explores the lived experiences and histories of women in the African diaspora. The Main Line Art Center is located at 746 Panmure Road, Haverford, PA. Andrew Wyeth gets a new perspective at the Brandywine River Museum of Art in Home Places. This is the first exhibition curated by the inaugural Wyeth Foundation Curator and Director of the Andrew & Betsy Wyeth Study Center, Dr. William L. Coleman. Celebrate Beauty in Life, a solo show by artist William Timmins, at the Media Arts Council. An Opening Reception will be held Friday, February 3rd from 5 to 7 pm. It is a special thing to sit with your favorite tea bowl that fits perfectly in your hands and have a cup of freshly brewed tea. A Sculptural Universe celebrates ceramic art as part of the Philadelphia International Tea Bowl Exhibition, on view February 4th through March 4th at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford, PA. Curated by local ceramic artist Mark Tyson, it includes three hundred objects from more than sixty artists. Monoprint, Roger Matsumoto, Mezzanine Gallery at Delaware

The Wilmington Art Loop is held every First Friday in Downtown Wilmington. This month, it will be held on Friday, February 3rd, featuring galleries throughout the city. Some highlights include Love/Cherish at The Blue Streak Gallery, Roger Matsumoto at the Mezzanine Gallery of the Delaware Division of the Arts with his show Printing with Palladium, and MUSE featuring the work of Smashed Label at the Chris White Art Gallery. Featuring local artists Terrence Laragione, Sterling Shaw, Jenny Kanzler, Joshua Schaefer, Nick D’Angelo, Benjamin Long, Alison Willse, and Fred Danziger, the exhibition explores personal fantasies and fanciful musings.
