It took crews about 20 minutes to extinguish a Birmingham Township house fire, but it was too late to save the home’s only resident, her cat, and her dog.
Firefighters responded on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 11:14 p.m. to a home in the 1300 block of Birmingham Road and found the rear of the residence fully engulfed. Concordville Fire Chief Thomas R. Nelling, who is also the Birmingham Township police chief, said a neighbor saw flames while returning home from work and called 911.
Nelling said the first firefighters who entered the home found the victim, Bonnie Lynn Hall, 65, unresponsive in a first-floor bedroom. Nelling said the pets also perished. He said the coroner was called, and an autopsy would be performed.
Hall, the sister of Chester County Court Judge John L. Hall, had lived in the home for more than 30 years, Nelling said.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit, the Chester County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Birmingham Police Department are investigating the cause, which is not believed to be suspicious, officials said. Nelling said the home had working smoke detectors.
Nelling said the fire was contained to the rear of the residence. The Concordville Fire Company was assisted by the West Chester Fire Department, Longwood Fire Company, Fame Fire Company, Goodwill Fire Company, Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company, Kennett Fire Company, Holmes Fire Company and PECO.
