Brandywine Art Guide for May

Beautiful exhibitions and shows are opening throughout the Brandywine Valley this month! From flowers to hats, unique artistic techniques to collaborations, the galleries are bursting with new works from the region’s talented artists.

Find all the must-see spots at View: Experience the Art of the Chester County Studio Tour at the Chester County Art Association. This is an excellent way to see samples of artworks from every artist on the tour, all in one place, on view from through May 31. The CCAA is located at 100 North Bradford Avenue, West Chester. Local artist Pia De Girolamo and photographer Laurel Termini have a two-person show at the Da Vinci Art Alliance. On view through the 21, Pandemic Flowers: A Bicoastal Conversation includes photographs taken by Termini near her home in Los Angeles, which inspired the paintings by De Girolamo, which led to a collaborative creative experience through the stresses and losses of the pandemic. During May, see the Shades of My Voice, a solo exhibition by Eo Omwake, at the Oxford Arts Alliance’s Main Gallery. In the Emerging Artist Gallery, take in the EAG Project Program for OAHS Students: The World Revolves Around Me, a solo exhibition by Guadalupe Juarez. The Oxford Arts Alliance is at 38 S. Dale Roberts shows their innovative techniques using encaustic painting in a new show at The Church Street Gallery now through May 27. The Church Street Gallery is at 12 S. Church Street, West Chester. More information can be found at ChurchStreetGalleryWC.com.

Two exhibitions are on view at the Media Arts Council. On May 5, see Passage: 2023 Annual Juried Art Show, featuring over fifty works selected by juror Maryanne Buschini. Materiality: Art. Fashion. Craft showcases the work of emerging and established designers at the Main Line Art Center. Energy and emotion work together to evoke “garments” that incorporate unusual materials. The show is on view through June 9^th. The Main Line Art Center is located at 746 Panmure Road, Haverford. Twenty-one artists will participate in the Multiplicities exhibition at the Regional Center for Women in the Arts, from May 19 through June 30. Including a range of genres from representational to conceptual to abstraction, the show brings together women artists from various generations of the Delaware Valley. Kindred Art brings three artists—Mikel Elam, Carl Cellini, and Richard Metz—to The Art Trust through June 8. Gilded Journey, from jewelry artist and painter Linda Lurcott, is on view at The Jeweled Warrior through May 21. This exhibition combines mediums and artwork in various themes. Flowers Inspire at the Square Pear Gallery through July 8. This exhibition will also celebrate the gallery’s fifth anniversary. Showcasing the beauty and versatility of floral art with a diverse range of styles and techniques, this show includes twenty-two local artists.
