UPDATE BELOW

The search is on for a new principal at Unionville High School. Superintendent of Schools John Sanville announced today that Jimmy Conley is leaving to take a position as Wallingford-Swarthmore School District assistant superintendent.

Sanville said he has mixed feelings about Conley‘s departure.

“While we are so happy for him, it is certainly bittersweet news for us,” he said.

Sanville continued by saying, “During his tenure as principal, Dr. Conley was instrumental in establishing Lunch and Learn and a new Student Code of Conduct. His leadership throughout the mascot discussions and eventual adoption of the Longhorns was integral to a positive resolution. There are so many other things he has done - but most importantly, Dr. Conley fostered good relationships with students, staff, and the community, and will be missed.”

Conley has been with the Unionville-Chadds Ford School district for 19 years, first as an English teacher, then as an assistant principal, and then, in 2015, as principal at UHS. His last day is June 30. He did not reply when asked to comment.

UPDATE:

In an email late Tuesday, Conley said, “While this is an exciting opportunity for me and my family as I move forward in my professional career, it certainly carries with it bittersweet emotions…As I look forward to charting a new path with my new school family in Wallingford-Swarthmore, I will always take with me the memories and lessons that I learned in this amazing school district. Thank you for my wonderful 19 years, and for allowing me the opportunity to work with your children each day. While I am not too far away, Unionville High School will always be a huge part of who I am.
