As anticipated, the Unionville-Chadds Ford School Board approved spending more than $178,000 for five facility projects during the board’s May 18 meeting.
Approved was the replacement of the existing electric kiln in the high school art room. The old kiln is to be demolished and removed, followed by the installation of a new kiln along with the installation of a new venting system. The cost of the project is $17,584, and the job went to All Kiln Services LLC.
The second item that was up for approval was the approval for a new chiller controller system at Chadds Ford Elementary School. Board documents say the existing unit is obsolete and has been randomly dropping parts of the program, leading to significant downtime. Included in the work is the installation of a new controller, network, and power wiring, programming, and updating the interactive graphics on the Building Management System. Tri-M got the contract for $16,200.
Another project for Chadds Ford Elementary was the purchase of large concrete bench/planter units for vehicular protection at the front entrance to the school. Concrete bollards will also be installed. The contract went to Landscape Forms in the amount of $21,348.
For Hillendale Elementary, asphalt bid awards went to Unitex Asphalt Services for $61,955. Work on this project includes milling and overlay at Hillendale drop of loop, lower playground area, and the wastewater treatment plant access drive.
The last item was the awarding of a concrete bid, which also went to Unitex Asphalt Services for $61,550. Work on this project includes installing new concrete safety bollards at key locations and new concrete stairs from Patton Middle School down to the double turf field.
