CHADDS FORD, Pa. — The Chadds Ford Township Residents Association has named Leader Sunoco as its 2025 Business of the Year, honoring the family-run service station for decades of community involvement, volunteerism, and commitment to preserving the township’s character.

The award is presented annually to a business in Chadds Ford Township that fosters a sense of community, supports residents through volunteer activities or contributes to maintaining the area’s historical and rural heritage.

Established in 1987, Leader Sunoco has been operated by the Leader family for nearly four decades. While known for its fuel sales and full-service automotive repairs, the station at 1634 Baltimore Pike has long been recognized as a gathering place and a neighbor willing to lend a hand.

For 38 years prior to the pandemic, the Leaders hosted a Christmas Eve open house in the service bay, offering food and friendship to residents. “It was never about business—it was about seeing everyone together,” said Jim, who recalled greeting families from across the township each year.

The Leaders’ community work includes hosting educational nights for new drivers on car maintenance, helping Girl Scouts earn their Car Care badge, and mentoring young technicians from area trade schools. They have been active members of the Chadds Ford Business Association, promoting fellow businesses through flyers and signage at the station.

Their service also extends beyond organized events. Residents tell of the family stopping to help with flat tires, picking up cars from retirement communities or offering advice without charge. “If someone’s in trouble, we try to help,” said one longtime community resident.

Customers have praised the business for its reliability and trustworthiness. “Absolutely my go-to for anything more than an oil change… They won’t waste your money on what doesn’t need it,” said Will Trout. “Leader Sunoco!!! Greatest service and gas station on the planet!” wrote Sergi on a popular testimonial site.

Leader Sunoco’s reputation is built on a wide range of services, from gasoline sales—including Sunoco Race Fuels in 95, 100, 104, and 110 octane—to full automotive repairs, state inspections, and diagnostics for all makes and models. Open daily with extended hours, the shop has earned a 4.4-star rating across multiple review platforms.

The award was presented during a ceremony on July 30 at the Chadds Ford Township Municipal Building. Association president Linda said the recognition reflects the way the Leaders have made service “a part of everyday life” in the township.

The Chadds Ford Township Residents Association is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization supported by donations and membership fees. Its mission is to strengthen community ties, assist residents and businesses, and preserve the township’s rural and historic character.
