Natalie Harper Wood, formerly of Corning, N.Y.

Natalie Harper Wood,  99, formerly of Corning, NY, died Saturday, May 23, at Crosslands, Kennett Square, where she had lived since 1977.  She was the wife of the late Thomas S. Wood, Jr., who passed away in 2002 and with whom she shared 72 years of marriage.

Born in Upper Darby, she was the daughter of the late John Krouse Harper and Helen Eastwick Harper.

Mrs. Wood attended Swarthmore College and designed the Swarthmore class ring.

She was very active with the Red Cross during World War II.

She attended Christ Episcopal Church in Corning, N.Y. for over 40 years.

Mrs. Wood was on the Board of Education for Corning which went through a consolidation of several school systems over a period of time.  She helped to develop Corning Community College as one of its founders and was on their Board of Directors.

She had a lifelong love and expression of art in both watercolors and oils.  All proceeds from the sale of her artwork were donated to the American Friends Service Committee.

She is survived by two sons, T. Stacy Wood, III and his wife Joyce of Burlington, N.C. and John Harper Wood and his wife Madeline of Maineville, Ohio; a daughter, Martha Wood Cubberley of Cleveland, Ohio; and by 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, John Roberts Harper, Richard Eastwick Harper, and John Alan Harper.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Wood’s memory may be made to the Corning Community College, 1 Academic Drive, Corning, NY 14830.
