Chadds Ford Township Board of Supervisors on Wednesday honored one resident, made a new hire, and passed a new ordinance. Supervisors also awarded a two-year contract for road and property maintenance.
The board honored Liam McKelvey, a Webb Road resident who attends Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School. Supervisors’ Chairman Timotha Trigg read a two-page resolution recognizing him for “exemplary service, character, and community contributions.”
The resolution recognizes Liam as a dedicated employee of the township, but also as an enthusiastic volunteer in support of township Earth Day celebrations and historical preservation initiatives.
In school, McKelvey has maintained a cumulative grade point average of 4.24 and has consistently achieved honor roll status, according to the resolution. Additionally, he ranks in the top 10 percent of his class.
The resolution also reads: “Liam’s exemplary service has earned him an unparalleled collection of over 60 official awards and commendations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars Medal, Daughters of the American Revolution Medal, Sons of the American Revolution Medal, and the Navy League Youth Medal, as well as numerous ribbons for academic achievement, community service, safety, leadership, and marksmanship—including over 600 hours of verified volunteer service, multiple citations, and commendation awards at the national level.”
McKelvey has also earned the U.S. Naval Academy’s Summer STEM Excellence in Physics Award and the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement.
“Now, therefore, be it resolved the Board of Supervisors of Chadds Ford Township does hereby formally recognize and commend Liam McKelvey for his exceptional service to the Township and his remarkable accomplishments as a student, cadet, leader, and citizen,” Trigg read.
Other business
• The road maintenance contract went to Nichols Construction Co., one of two bidders. The other bidder was MOR Construction Services, but Nichols came in with the lower bid of $ 5,265 for two years. MOR’s bid was $6,040.
• The ordinance the board passed allows for fire companies operating within Chadds Ford Township to seek reimbursement of reasonable costs after responding to incidents within the service area “either directly or in coordination with the township.”

“A fire company servicing the Township or its authorized third-party billing service shall only have the authority to recover the aforementioned costs from an applicable insurance/indemnity company or companies, and only up to the limit of the applicable policy,” the ordinance reads.
The fire companies or their third-party billing services are also authorized to collect reasonable interest and administration fees.
• Supervisors hired Ellen Simons as a part-time employee to support general administration, projects, and office operations.
