The art world is your oyster this April, with a wide variety of events, exhibitions, and festivals in the Brandywine Valley. From film to sculpture to the masters of the Brandywine Tradition, art lovers are spoiled for options. It is the perfect time to explore and see something new!

Planted by a stream of water by Alpha Massaquoi Jr. at Saliim Projects

Saliim Projects, a gallery that opened last year in Newtown Square, presents Well Within: Portraits by Sarah Fantuzzo, Alpha Massaquoi Jr, and Karla Pankratz. This show highlights how the artists explore their relationships with themselves, their loved ones, and their surroundings through figurative representations. The 18th West Chester International Short Film Festival at Uptown! will be held April 26 to 28. With 73 short films from a dozen countries, the festival has something for everyone. Reflections on nature are explored in Process, a solo show by Mark Zimmerman at Art Work Gallery. By using textures and natural forms, the exhibition explores biophilia, the human desire to commune with nature and other forms of life. An Opening Reception will be held on April 5 from 6 to 9 pm, and the show is on view through April 26. ArtWRKD Workshop explores the interplay between art and language in Ekphrastic, with works from multiple artists in various mediums, on view from April 12 to 27. Nude Descending a Staircase by Jeff Carpenter at The Art Trust

The 51st Annual Yellow Springs Art Show will be held April 27 through May 12, open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Historic Yellow Springs is located at 1685 Art School Road, Chester Springs. More information can be found at YellowSprings.org.

Find humor in art at Living Through Laughter, a solo exhibition from Nicki Wandersee at The Jeweled Warrior. The Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art brings together pieces from the “master of the unsettled mood” in Jamie Wyeth: Unsettled. Dive in at Blue Streak Gallery at Fish Tales, by sculptor William Spiker. This playful show brings personality to pieces created from found and unusual materials. The Opening Reception on April 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. will also celebrate the gallery’s 36th Anniversary, and the show continues until April 30. The Abington Art Center presents two shows through April 15. Feeling Blue: Navigating Challenges through Art features selected works from a juried show, and Affirmation of Life: Art in Today’s Ukraine brings together artworks from contemporary Ukrainian artists. White Hill Town by Rhoda Kahler at Church Street Gallery

Out of the Fire, a solo show by Rhoda Kahler, opens at Church Street Gallery on April 5 with a Cocktail Reception from 5 to 8 p.m. during First Friday in Downtown West Chester, with free on-street parking and events throughout the town. Travel around the world in A Showcase of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting at the Chester County Art Association. The show is on view through April 4. Step back in history with A Tribute to Dr. Anna Broomall at the Media Arts Council, a collection of art and artifacts that tell the story of this remarkable physician, teacher, advocate, and archivist who lived from 1847–1931. The show is on view through June 23. Continue exploring We Were Here: The Art and Artifacts of Delaware County 100 Years Ago and Today, on view through April 21. Also, the 17th Annual Media Film Festival will be held April 4-6 p.m. at The Media Theatre. The MAC Arts Center is located at 11 E. State Street, Media. Sip and enjoy at the Community Arts Center with The Art of Beer, on view through May 10. An Opening Reception will be held April 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. with samples from represented breweries. The Art Trust explores two dimensions in Structures, a group show sharing fragments of visual narratives from three artists: Lisa Baird, Kate McCammon, and Jeff Carpenter, curated by Katee Boyle and Kari Lane.
