Carroll Howard Pratt of New Garden Township

 

Carroll
Howard Pratt passed away Jan. 24 at home at the age of 83.

He was born
at the West Grove Hospital on April 13, 1926.  The son of Howard Thompson Pratt and Viola Spencer Pratt,
Carroll lived in the same house all his life in New Garden Township.  The farm, “Hillcrest Farm”, is a
Century Farm.

Carroll was
married to June Kemery Pratt, formerly from West Chester, for 58 years.  He was a farmer and mushroom grower and
was a partner of Pratt Mushrooms with his wife and son, Kenneth.

He was a 1944
graduate of Kennett High School and he and his wife recently attended his 65th
high school class reunion.  He took
several courses at the Pennsylvania State University.

Carroll was
a birthright member of New Garden Friends Meeting and remained an active member
all his life and was Superintendent of First Day School at the time of his
death.

He was a 65-year
member of London Grove Grange #63 and was present master.  He was a State and National Grange
member.

Carroll has
been a volunteer weather observer for Chester County for 31 years.

He formerly
was a director of Landenberg Building Association, Mushroom Canning Company,
MGA Mushroom Company and Chester/Delaware Farmers Association.  He also had memberships at Avondale
Fire Company, Kennett Senior Center and Farm Bureau Association.

Carroll
enjoyed attending family gatherings and Grange activities.  He liked to work in his large vegetable
garden, ride his tractor, and feed the birds.  He traveled and cruised with his wife June, throughout the
United States, Canada, and several foreign countries.

In addition
to his wife June, he is survived by his son, Kenneth Carroll Pratt and wife
Lisa (Hopkins), daughter Darlene Carol Pratt Pratola and husband, Ralph, four
grandsons, Tyler K. and Conner W. Pratt, Matthew A. and Jeffrey M. Pratola, and
one brother Donald Spencer Pratt and wife Bertha, all of New Garden Township,
and several nieces and nephews.

You can
visit with the family on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a memorial
service immediately following at New Garden Friends Meeting, 875 Newark Road,
Toughkenamon.  Burial will be at
the convenience of the family.

121 Bell Tower Lane, Oxford, PA 19363 or the Avondale Fire and Ambulance Company,
23 Firehouse Way, Avondale, PA 19311.
