January 17, 2018  ON ART: Conversations with the Artists Featuring Robert Straight

5:25 - 6 p.m.    FREE

Followed by Open Studio 6-8 p.m. $10 drop-in fee

Join us for this ON ART to meet Robert Straight and engage in lively discussions about his exhibition, Trifecta, representing work executed in three distinct formats: sculptures, constructed structures, and conventional paintings. Though different in form, the underlying theme of time is present in each piece. A single path of color, a bold line, an irregular shape all convey a journey through time.

"'As time went on, I did more work that wasn't exclusively representational, like changing a figure into mechanical creatures," he says. "My work slowly started to look like the art in the movie 'Yellow Submarine' about The Beatles-and it gets even more abstract each time I create.'"

For Longtime UD Art Professor, Retirement Is Just the Beginning by Kerri Whelan, DELAWARE TODAY.

Trifecta is on display January 12 - March 30, 2018 in the Constance S. & Robert J. Hennessy Project Space.

YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS!

THANKS TO YOU, we had an exceptional response to our End-of-Year Campaign in December!

We are incredibly grateful for our community's wonderful generosity and show of support last month. YOU make it possible for The Delaware Contemporary to continue offering innovative exhibitions, meaningful public programs, and exciting educational opportunities that cultivate the importance of contemporary art in daily life. Our continued success is dependent on the ongoing support from YOU - our friends, our neighbors, our community.

As we approach our 40th anniversary in 2019, The Delaware Contemporary continues to anchor a vibrant contemporary art scene offering artists of all career stages opportunities for growth and exposure. Through dynamic family programs we are able to introduce our community's future artists to contemporary art experiences. The Delaware Contemporary was founded by artists who recognized our wealth of community talent and the enriching role art plays in our lives. We are proud to continue that tradition.

We look forward to working with new friends as we build a future of more extraordinary art experiences.
