Public Welcome to View Life in the 1860s
Union Patriotic League and Mifflin Guard Civilians to visit The Mill at Anselma

The Mill at Anselma will celebrate Life in the 1860s on Saturday, July 8, 2017, from 10AM to 4PM. The Mill at Anselma is excited to be hosting both the Union Patriotic League and the Mifflin Guard Civilians, both reenacting groups who aim to educate the public regarding the life and work of American civilians during the mid-1800s.  Their living history demonstrations will inform and delight visitors of all ages. Included in their demonstrations are open fire cooking and baking, chair caning, sewing and other needlework, knitting, ladies hair styling and products, band boxes, painting, and other hand crafts.

In addition to the Life in the 1860s encampment, The Mill will also be running a demonstration that day to show how corn was ground over 150 years ago. Visitors will learn how a mill was operated, see the 16 foot water wheel power Colonial-era gears and mill stones, and see and feel the final product as it flows from the stones.

The Mill at Anselma is open to the public every weekend, April through to December, from 10AM to 4PM. Additional hours in the summer are Thursday and Friday 10AM to 4PM. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children 4 – 14 years of age. Mill members admitted free of charge.

The Mill at Anselma (c. 1747) served its local agricultural community for nearly 300 years and is considered the most complete example of a Colonial-era custom grist mill in the United States.  Restored and recognized as a National Historic Landmark, the Mill provides a powerful educational experience, allowing visitors to experience Pennsylvania’s industrial and agricultural heritage through milling demonstrations, tours of the site, hands-on activities, and its popular speaker series. The Mill is located on Rt. 401 (1730 Conestoga Road), ½ mile west of Rt. 113 in Chester Springs, PA.  For more information, contact the Mill at Anselma at 610-827-1906, email info@anselmamill.org, or visit www.anselmamill.org.
