Chester County veterans and veteran organizations invited to attend free breakfast hosted by county Recorder of Deeds Rick

All Chester County veterans and veteran organizations are invited to attend the annual free breakfast, hosted by Chester County Recorder of Deeds Rick Loughery and the Chester County Department of Veterans Affairs.  The event takes place on Thursday, February 22, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus, 137 Modena Road, Coatesville, in the Academic Building.

“We are deeply grateful for the service and sacrifice of more than 80,000 veterans residing in Chester County whose serve ranges from World War II to today’s conflicts around the world,” said Loughery.  “So many did not stop after their military service; they continued to protect our citizens across Chester County.  At this year’s breakfast, we are paying special tribute to those veterans who have continued to serve our community as first responders.   We owe a special debt to these men and women and we will take the opportunity to recognize their patriotism and selfless dedication at our veterans’ breakfast.”

The breakfast is free to all Chester County veterans who register to attend and includes a special briefing by Congressman Lloyd Smucker on federal issues and a discussion on local services by Chester County Veterans Affairs director Lawrence Davidson.

“Chester County has many veterans initiatives that are offered by veterans and other related organizations across a wide geographical area,” said Davidson.  “This breakfast brings together many veterans groups, interested businesses and individuals to continue a collaborative county-wide conversation about veteran services; to explore ways in which we can learn from each other and to share ideas that successfully support our veterans.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation of new men’s and women’s underclothing, socks and t-shirts to benefit homeless and hospitalized veterans at the Coatesville VA Medical Center, through David’s Drive 831.

Any veteran who brings his or her DD-214 discharge papers to the breakfast will also be eligible to receive a veteran ID discount card from the Chester County Recorder of Deeds office.  The veterans ID discount program offers savings at more than 100 business locations throughout the county.  To register to attend the breakfast, Chester County veterans should email veteransID@chesco.org or call Kayla at the Recorder of Deeds office at 610-344-4083.
