Chadds Ford in brief

Chadds Ford in brief

Chadds Ford Township supervisors voted to apply for a CLG Mini-Grant – Pennsylvania Historical Marker for Painter’s Folly. According to Supervisor Kathleen Goodier, the grant could provide up to $7,500 in funding for the initiative, with a 25 percent match from the township.

She added that the program provides small grants for historic preservation and public education. The money would go toward an historical marker application process.

Supervisors also called for the authorization to prepare a Request for Proposals to construct the trail at Sunset Hill Preserve. Supervisor Samantha Reiner stressed the action was solely for preparing the RFP, not an authorization to advertise for it.

Township engineer Mike Schneider said Mike Bingham, the alternate engineer from last year, did the initial planning and preliminary design work. Schneider recommended that Bingham stay on and finish the design work as the RFP moves forward.

One area of concern that needs to be addressed is the parking area for the trail, and Schneider said he would get involved at that point. He said he was concerned about Heyburn Road and how the township needs to make sure there’s adequate site distances for ingress and egress. More discussion on that will take place as the RFP is developed.

Learn your Chester County ancestral lands at the Chester County History Center on Jan. 29.

The Chester County History Center is offering a class, Stomping Grounds, tracing your Chester County ancestral lands, on Thursday, Jan. 29, from noon to 1 p.m. Land records can be a genealogist’s super weapon. However, many tend to underutilize them because they aren’t sure how to find them, how to read them (they’re typically chock-full of intimidating legal jargon), and what to do with the information they contain. Learn the basics of using land records to trace your Chester County ancestors, learn if/how their lands were involved in the Revolutionary War, and learn how, sometimes, we are even able to locate family lands in the present day. This is a pay-as-you-wish event that will be recorded, and a link to the recording will be emailed to all registrants.
