Road Report for April 29 through May 5

PennDOT has announced the following weather-dependent road projects that could affect drivers in the greater Chadds Ford area from April 29 through May 5. Motorists are urged to allow extra time traveling through one of the construction zones. Work schedules are subject to change.

Tree clearing and utility excavation operations will begin next week on Route 1 between the Kennett Oxford Bypass to Greenwood Road in Kennett and East Marlborough townships. The work — from May 1-5 — will cause daytime lane closures. This is part of a plan to widen Route 1 in that area by constructing a third travel lane in some sections and using existing shoulders and right turn lanes to create a third lane for the rest of the corridor. Sidewalks will also be installed, and left turns from Orchard Avenue will be prohibited. Five signalized intersections will be upgraded.

Through May 8, motorists should expect daytime lane closures on Route 1, north and south, at its intersection with Schoolhouse Lane in Concord Township for delineator installation.

Roadway reconstruction will cause daytime lane closures on Route 202 between Smithbridge Road and Watkin Avenue, and on Naamans Creek Road between Route 202 and Graystone Drive through Sept. 1.

Gas line installation will cause daytime lane closures on Route 1 between Schoolhouse Road and Ladbroke Lane in East Marlborough Township through June 30.

Motorists should expect lane restrictions with a detour for trucks on Route 162 at its intersection with Route 82 in Newlin Township because of bridge repair. There is currently no date for completion.
