John E Talley Sr. of Chadds Ford

John E Talley Sr., of Chadds Ford, known to most as "Pop," died peacefully at his home on Thursday, Jan. 5, at the age of 101.

John was the 6th child of 12 born to Frank and Ella Talley of Chadds Ford. As a lifelong resident of Chadds Ford, he attended Chadds Ford Consolidated School, graduating in 1938. He worked on the family dairy farm before becoming a milkman for Bergdoll Dairy. He was employed by Woodlawn Trustees as a maintenance man for 20 years, retiring in 1986. He continued to keep busy working for several local plumbers well into his 80s. His favorite job was being Pop Pop to his grandchildren.

John was an active member of the Odd Fellows Lodge No 1 for more than 50 years as well as a member of the Queen Ester Rebekah Lodge No. 5 of I.O.O.F. and the Civic Association of Chadds Ford. He was an avid bowler on many championship teams over the years and continued bowling until he was 98. He loved watching Phillies baseball.

He is survived by his son, Jack Talley & wife Dawn, of Unionville, daughter, Jill Talley, of Wilmington, brother Kenneth Talley & wife Janice of Milton, Del., sisters Phyllis Clark and Molly Edwards both of Chadds Ford, five grandchildren, Emily and husband Bryan Hood, Jonathan and Luke Talley, Ethan and Julia Blackburn as well two great-grandchildren, Kennedy & Carter Hood.

Please join the family for his life celebration on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with a memorial service at 11. Interment will be private.
