The annual Mushroom Drop in Kennett Square is scheduled for this Saturday night, Dec. 31 at State and Union streets in the borough, weather permitting. Entertainment, beginning at 7:30 p.m., includes live music, dancers, and a laser light show. The giant mushroom will be raised just before 9 p.m., then lowered as the new year approaches. Parking is available at Kennett High School and at 600 S. Broad Street. There will be a handicap-accessible shuttle providing transportation from the parking area to the event site.

It's the last call for two current exhibits at the Brandywine River Museum of Art. The Brandywine Railroad and Fragile Earth: The Naturalist Impulse in Contemporary Art are coming to a close on Sunday, Jan. 8. Next up at BRM, beginning Feb. 4, is Home Places: Andrew Wyeth and the Architecture of Chadds Ford.

Learn about native plants and pollinators during an online lecture from Mt. Cuba Center.

Coming up as part of the lecture series at Mt. Cuba Center is an online talk, Pollinators and Native Plant Cultivars. Annie White, the founder of Nectar Landscape Design Studio and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Vermont, will discuss how the growing demand for native plants, coupled with the horticulture industry’s desire for plants with unique characteristics, has led to the increased breeding and availability of native cultivars or “nativars.” The online lecture is 6:30-8 p.m. on Jan. 11. Guitarists Fabio Mittino and Bert Lams will play Arden, Del. next month. The former students of King Crimson’s Robert Fripp will play Arden’s Buzz Ware Center on Saturday, Jan. 14.
