Police Log Nov.30: Statutory rape, thefts, DUIs

Police are investigating a report of a statutory rape involving a 23-year-old woman with Down’s Syndrome in Pocopson Township. A report said the driver of a service used to transport people to and from work was sending vulgar, sexual text messages to the victim.

John. C. Kubek, 52, of West Chester, was charged with driving under the influence following a one-car crash in Pocopson Township on Nov. 19, according to a state police report. The accident happened on Lenape Road near Deblyn V Lane. Police said Kubek was driving south on Lenape when the VW he was driving left the roadway and struck four road signs. He then fled the scene, police said. He was found later showing signs of impairment and minor head wounds. He was taken to Paoli Hospital for treatment and a blood draw, the report said.

Police are investigating the Nov. 28 theft of $276 worth of merchandise from the Walmart in East Marlborough Township. A report said a male was waiting in a black Ford Taurus in the parking lot when a woman accomplice forced her way past security with the merchandise and fled in the Taurus.

State police from the Avondale barracks are investigating the theft of two vials of methadone from a location on W. Street Road in Pocopson Township. No details of the incident were released other than police received the call at 8:20 a.m. on Nov. 28.

A 52-year-old man faces charges of DUI and resisting arrest following a traffic stop in Kennett Township on Nov. 26. According to the report, police made the stop after witnessing multiple traffic violations. The driver, not identified in the report, began taking field sobriety tests, but then refused to continue. When told he was being placed under arrest, the report said, the man became verbally and physically abusive.

Police said they arrested a 24-year-old man from West Chester for DUI on Route 1 at N. Union Street in East Marlborough Township on Nov. 24. The driver was not identified in the report, nor were other details.

A 29-year-old man, not identified, was arrested for DUI following a traffic stop on Kennett Pike near Raintree Road in Pennsbury Township at 1:05 a.m. on Nov. 25. Police made the stop after observing traffic violations. After the stop, the report said, troopers could smell alcohol coming from the vehicle and the suspect’s breath. A field sobriety test indicated impairment.

Police said they arrested a 20-year-old man from Philadelphia on drug possession charges. The arrest came shortly after 1 a.m. on Nov. 22 in Kennett Township. According to police, the suspect, not named in the report, was stopped for traffic violations on Route 1 at N. Walnut Road. An investigation led to the man being arrested for intoxication and possessing a controlled substance.

A police report said two women, not identified in the report, were charged with shoplifting at the Walmart in East Marlborough Township just before 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 21. No other details were released.

Daniel Osborne, 41, of Avondale, was arrested on shoplifting charges following an incident at the East Marlborough Township Walmart on Nov. 23, according to a police report. Police said the suspect was seen concealing items and walking past the last point of sale.

Police said a 51-year-old woman from Downingtown — not identified in the report — was arrested for DUI in East Marlborough Township on Nov. 23. According to the report, police made a traffic stop for moving violations and detected the odor of alcohol coming from the car after they made contact with the driver who admitted to having been drinking earlier in the evening.

A 14-year-old girl was arrested for shoplifting at the Walmart in East Marlborough Township on Nov. 22. Police said the teenager concealed two items valued at $9.90 and tried to leave the store without paying.

Kennett Square Police Department

Police said Jesus Romero-Zamudio, 29, of Kennett Square, was arrested and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses after officers were dispatched for a male in a gray sedan who seemed disoriented. Officers patrolled the area and located the gray Toyota parked in the wrong direction and partially off the roadway in the grass. The incident occurred on Nov. 16, at approximately 8:05 p.m., in the 700 block of Lafayette Street. The report said officers made contact with Romero-Zamudio at his residence and observed indicators of intoxication. He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and submitted to a chemical test of breath, resulting in a blood alcohol level of 0.202 percent.
