Board earmarks $4M for facilities

Unionville-Chadds Ford School District directors voted to spend almost $4 million on facilities improvements during their Nov. 21 meeting. Leading the expense list was a bid of $1.8 million awarded to Garland/DBS for roof replacement at Unionville High School. Directors also awarded a $236,700 bid to Garland for roof replacement work at Hillendale Elementary School.

Also for the high school, board members awarded a bid of almost $632,000 for baseball field renovations. Director Rashi Akki said the project was up for bid last year, but the bids were deemed too high. After considering six bids, directors awarded the project to Uhrig Construction.

“We reassessed the project and reduced it significantly by more than a half-million dollars.,” she said before the vote.

The other high-cost item was a bid of almost $300,000 for a public sewer connection at Pocopson Elementary School.

Other projects included $40,637 for bus radio system upgrades, classroom upgrades at UHS for $25,000, and exterior masonry repairs at Chadds Ford Elementary for $22,000.
