Police Log Oct. 19: Fraud, deviate sexual behavior

Police said they arrested a 51-year-old man from Camden — not identified in the report — for trying to cash a fraudulent check at the Sun East Federal Credit Union on Route 1 in Concord Township.

State police are investigating the theft of more than $300 worth of merchandise from the Walgreens on Route 202 in Concord Township on Sept. 28. Items taken include three Waterpik flossers and three electric toothbrushes.

Police said Sakeenh Q. Benton, 43, of Upland, was cited following a traffic accident on Route 1 near Painters Crossing Condominiums on Oct. 4. She and a passenger were taken to Riddle Hospital for treatment of suspected injuries. According to the report, Benton was driving north on Route 1 when another vehicle exited the condos and attempted a left turn when struck.

A one-car crash led to a Glen Mills woman being cited for driving without a valid license. Police identified the driver as Shaunna L. Wollpert, 44. According to the police report, Wollpert was driving east on Smithbridge Road when she traveled into a curb and struck a stop sign at Palmer Road. Police said the crash might have been due to a medical condition. The incident happened at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 3.

Avondale Barracks

John R. Logan, 36, of West Chester, was cited for excessive speed following a one-car crash on Lenape Road in Pocopson Township on Oct. 13, police said. According to the report, Logan was traveling east on Lenape Road when the Toyota Camry he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree as he attempted to negotiate a left-hand curve near Wayne Drive. The accident happened at 9:11 p.m.

State police said they arrested Maria Cozza, a 52-year-old from Hockessin, on shoplifting charges. According to a police report, Cozza allegedly tried to leave the Walmart In East Marlborough Township without paying for $124 worth of merchandise on Oct. 11.

Also on Oct. 11, a 52-year-old woman from Kennett Square was arrested for DUI on Avonwood Road in East Marlborough Township at 12:42 a.m. No other details were released.

James Savage, 44, of Wilmington, was arrested for DUI shortly before 2 a.m. on Oct. 6. A report said police saw a vehicle stopped on the off-ramp of Route 1 at N. Union Street with four-way signals flashing, and the driver and passenger asleep.

Kennett Square Police Department

Police said Jhonathan Lopez-Lopez, 23, of Kennett Square, was arrested and charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, sexual abuse of children, and other related offenses on Oct. 8, after Pennsylvania State Police from the Avondale barracks contacted Kennett Square police and advised they had him in custody for unrelated charges. The above-listed charges resulted from an investigation involving Lopez-Lopez having inappropriate contact with a juvenile. Other charges include aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, and unlawful contact with a minor. Jhonathan Lopez-Lopez was transported to central booking, where he was later arraigned and remanded to the prison after failing to post bail, which was set at $500,000.

An arrest warrant was issued for Joel Sanchez-Dominguez on Oct. 13 after he failed to appear for his preliminary hearing that was scheduled on Oct. 12, according to police. The report said Sanchez-Dominguez, 24, of Kennett Square, was arrested and charged with DUI and related offenses following a traffic stop in the 200 block of South Garfield Street on Aug. 23. Upon making contact with Sanchez-Dominguez, officers said they observed indicators suggesting intoxication and field sobriety tests showed impairment. He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and submitted to a chemical test of his breath, resulting in a blood alcohol level of 0.109 percent.
