Mold remediation continues in Kennett

The Kennett Township supervisors will continue meeting this month in an alternate location as mold remediation is done in the township’s meeting room.

The Oct. 5 and 19 meetings will be held at the New Garden Township building, 299 Starr Road, Landenberg. According to the township, they are in-person meetings only, meaning that there is not an option for people to watch the meeting remotely as they had been able to do in Kennett.

The Aug. 17 meeting was held at the East Marlborough Township building, and September’s meetings were held at New Garden.

At their last meeting, also held at New Garden, the Kennett Supervisors selected Tucks Waterproofing of Coatesville to remediate the mold and waterproof the lower level of the township building. The 3-0 motion awarded Tucks a $19,500 contract to remove drywall, install a French drain and two sump pump wells, remove any visible mold and disinfect the area, and install a dehumidifier, according to the Sept. 21 meeting minutes. Tucks will also install two battery back-ups as well.

“In August, mold growth was discovered on the carpet and tables in the meeting room,” according to a policy briefing by Denise Serino with the township’s Finance and HR Department. “Humidity level testing was performed, and two walls had high levels. Mold N More came out to perform mold testing on all three floors as well as air sampling. The results showed that the lower level was impacted only.”

There were four bids, with Tucks’ as the lowest. The next step once mold and waterproofing remediation is finished is to hire another contractor to replace the drywall and flooring, among other things.
