UCF to go mask optional

In the wake of changes to CDC guidance, Uniuonville-Chadds Ford schools will go mask optional.

Superintendent of Schools John Sanville sent out the following email Saturday, Feb. 26:

"Late yesterday the CDC issued revised guidance regarding COVID-19 mitigation efforts. Based on these changes - and effective immediately -  all UCFSD schools, buses, and offices are mask optional.

"On Monday, the Board will take action to revise our current Health and Safety Plan - the updated plan will bring us in harmony with current guidance and take into account current conditions.

"We understand that our mask optional policy will be welcomed with both enthusiasm and trepidation - neither response is wrong. We encourage everyone to be accepting and understanding of different views and approaches.

"A number of mitigation measures will also remain in place including increased HVAC air exchanges, HEPA air purifiers in classrooms, 3 feet of social distancing when feasible and hand sanitizing stations - we do this in order to continue to keep our students and staff healthy.

"We have now reached a point where we can make plans to treat COVID-19 like we treat all other communicable and contagious illnesses - with care and caution."
