Hank’s Place OK’d for trailer

It took an extra nine days, but Chadds Ford Township supervisors finally gave Hank’s Place the OK for a food trailer in its parking lot. The iconic restaurant in the village area of Chadds Ford was wiped out when Hurricane Ida hit on Sept. 1. More than seven feet of water flooded the place.

Anthony and Katie Young, owners of Hank’s Place, requested a special event permit so they could have the trailer to keep the business going while they clean up and rebuild. Anthony Young said at the time that it’s important for the restaurant to show some level of income to potential lenders so they can rebuild. Supervisors heard their request on Nov. 22 but tabled any action until the regular meeting on Dec. 1.

The Youngs presented no new information during the second session, just an acceptance of what’s required, which was also established on Nov. 22.

The trailer will be in the parking area where the outdoor seating area was located and serve as a grab & go facility, take-out only. It will be open Wednesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The operation may start as soon as the Youngs show the township that they’ve notified all neighbors within a 500-foot radius that they intend to have the trailer. The permit allows the trailer service through March 3, 2022. Should the Youngs need more time, they must re-apply for a new permit.

In an email following the meeting, the Youngs sent out a press release saying, “Hank’s Place food trailer is a temporary removable structure intended to garner support in lending and to reinforce to the community the vitality of the village.”
