She followed her dream of helping others and entered the nursing field as a medical technician and held various positions within the nursing field throughout her career. She was employed at The Roxborough Home for Women for over 23 years where she retired in 2005.

Charmaine was a loving, caring woman with a heart of gold. She enjoyed spending time with her family and doting on her girls. When she was not spending time with family, Charmaine found joy in helping others. As a woman of faith and compassion, her children recall that while they were growing up her home was always open to anyone who was in need. She was often feeding kids in the neighborhood including their friends. In later years, her love for helping others spanned beyond the neighborhood kids to those that she never met and would never meet. She regularly donated to multiple charitable organizations such as Feed the Children to help children in India, Haiti, Guatemala, and several countries in Africa.

Charmaine was a devoted grandmother who played an integral part in her grandchildren’s rearing. She was referred to affectionately as “Nana” by her grandchildren who shared a special bond with her. Their fondest memories include their beloved Nana.

In her free time, when she was not spending time with family, Charmaine enjoyed reading, baking, watching Western movies, yoga, board games, drawing, and listening to music. She loved music. She enjoyed singing and Karaoke and loved beautiful music of all styles/eras, including classical, Gospel, Jazz, and others. She particularly loved the music of the famous composer Yanni.

Charmaine possessed many admirable traits such as compassion, kindness, class, style, and grace. She also possessed a wonderful sense of humor and touched everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. She was admired by all who had the pleasure of encountering her and her regality.

During the later years of her life, Charmaine endured a long but courageous battle with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and dementia. She fought a valiant fight but, in the end, God called her home. She will be missed and will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, daughter, and wife.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George Dorsey; sisters, Alberta Johnson, and Gwendolyn Johnson; daughter, Ramona Sanders; grandchild, Larry Clark; and nieces Theresa Johnson, Lisa Ann Johnson, and Freda Wilson.

Charmaine is survived by her daughters, Juanita Dorsey and Monica Dorsey; grandchildren, Danielle Dorsey, Charmaine Lanthia (Jephte), Dareeta Dorsey, Monica Wilmer (Antoine), Quinn Dorsey, Christian Clark, Ramon Jones, Tayo Dorsey, Frederick Lynch II; plus 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Brenda Bayard and Alfreda Wilson; and many nephews and nieces. All of whom she loved and touched deeply.
