Quick meeting at UCF

It was an unusual and refreshingly quick meeting of the Unionville-Chadds Ford School Board Monday night. During the 70-minute session, directors acted on routine business, including approving the purchase of a psychology textbook and authorizing expenditures for physical plant improvements.

The textbook is “Myers' Psychology for the AP Course” with a cost of almost $26,000, $170 per book.

Physical plant expenses involved additional design services for wastewater treatment at Chadds Ford Elementary School, new carpet tiles at Pocopson Elementary School, and two additional tents for outdoor events at Unionville High School.

The design service to improve the wastewater facility at CFES involves revising the design from a wastewater treatment plant to a holding facility for pump and haul operations. Doing that would have come at the cost of $850,000, more than twice the budgeted amount of $350,000.

The cost of the additional design service — which goes to Santec Consulting Services — is $21,000, but the construction would be about $200,000with an annual pump and haul charge of an estimated $25,000 per year.

The carpeting tile for PES will cost $24,000, and the tents for UHS will cost $8,800.

Each of the votes was unanimous.
