KCSD goes virtual, GV goes hybrid

Kennett and Garnet Valley school districts have made their decisions on when and how to open. Garnet Valley School District is going hybrid, as will Unionville-Chadds Ford, but Kennett Consolidated Schools will be only virtual for at least the first two months of the academic year.

According to the Kennett district’s website, the 2020-2021 school year will begin with remote learning for all students on Sept. 8, and that will continue at least through Nov. 13. More details on the remote learning environment will be released later.

Garnet Valley School District will start classes with a hybrid approach with students broken down into two groups based on their last name. Those with names beginning A-K are in one group, those whose names begin with L-Z will be in the second group, according to the district’s website.

The two groups will alternate days — Monday through Thursday for in-person instruction. Friday instruction will be virtual for all students.

Yet, the website said, there is also a fully online synchronous option in which students can attend from home using video conferencing with their assigned teacher and classmates.

Parents should contact their school district or visit their district’s website for more information.
