Lights of the Season: Winter Holidays, now at Chester County Historical Society.

Now through Jan. 2, the Chester County Historical Society presents Lights of the Season: Winter Holidays. The diverse residents of Chester County celebrate a variety of holidays between October and February. A common thread is light during this dark season in the northern hemisphere. Community participants will feature their traditions of celebration and hope.

This Saturday, Dec. 14, The Kennett Flash presents Better Than Bacon Improv and the ninth annual Non-Denominational Holiday Extravaganza. Better Than Bacon is an award-winning interactive improvisational comedy. Voted “Best Comedy Troupe – Critic’s Choice” by Main Line Today, Better Than Bacon performs in completely unscripted improvisational games, which are driven by audience suggestions and participation. Every show is a brand new experience. Doors open at 7 p.m., the show starts at 8. Tickets are $16 in advance, $20 at the door.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Mitten Tree Drive is on through Dec. 27.

Now through Dec. 27, employees of the Delaware Sheriff’s Office will be collecting new mittens, scarves, hats and winter accessories to donate to children in need in Delaware County. The items will be donated to the emergency shelter and transitional housing clients of the Community Action Agency of Delaware County. Items can be dropped off at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, located in the Courthouse. (201 W. Front St. Media, PA.) The names of donors will be added to the Christmas Tree outside of the Sheriff’s Office.

Santa continues his yearly arrival trips on a Longwood Fire Co. truck. All of the trips begin at 8:30 a.m. Santa will visit areas served by Longwood’s fire and rescue service. Santa will be in Kennett Township on Saturday, Dec. 14, Pocopson on Sunday, Dec. 15 and in Pennsbury on Saturday, Dec. 21.

December exhibits are now open at the Chester County Art Association and they begin with Kathryn Noska’s collection of landscapes and creatures in the Huston Gallery. The annual $300 & Under exhibit is in our Allinson Gallery. CCAA is located at 100 North Bradford Avenue in West Chester.
