Cartoon Christmas Trio plays at Uptown on dec. 21.

Family Jazz Night at Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center features beloved holiday music performed by the premier interpreter of classic cartoon soundtracks on Thursday, December 21, at 6:30 p.m. Cartoon Christmas Trio performs music from classic holiday cartoons, like “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” “The Grinch” and more, accompanied by the young voices of children’s choirs to complete the original vision for that music.

The trio, Jeff Knoettner on piano, Rob Swanson on double bass and Jimmy Coleman on drums, was established in 1995 for the sole purpose of capturing the nuances of holiday music scores by Vince Guaraldi and his contemporaries. They have performed at The Kimmel Center, The Queen, World Café Live!, Winterthur Museum and beyond, and have also been heard on NPR, ABC, and NBC. At Uptown!, they will be joined by world-class baritone Grant Youngblood and Hillendale, Pocopson and Unionville Elementary School Choirs under the direction of Stephen and Eileen Jennings.

Host of The Jazz Cocktail Hour at Uptown!, vocalist Sara Michaels, is pleased to welcome the trio back after sold-out holiday shows in 2017 and 2018. It is one of the 2019-2020 season of performances, featuring different jazz genres each month from this diverse American art form.

December is a festive month at the theater, with The Resident Theatre Company’s production of “Into the Woods”, and then, “Puttin’ On the Glitz”, Uptown!s New Year’s Eve celebration as well. Their website has details about these, and more events scheduled for the holiday season and well into 2020 - something for everyone.

Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center is conveniently located near parking, shopping and restaurants at 226 North High Street, West Chester. Purchase tickets at UptownWestChester.org, at the box office or call 610.356.ARTS(2787).
