• Chadds Ford Days is back, after a year hiatus. It returns this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Chadds Ford Historical Society grounds on Creek Road. This family-friendly event celebrates the history of Chadds Ford and the Historical Society is looking forward to greeting many members of our society and the community. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 7-17 and free for those 6 and younger and for CFHS members.
• Learn the ABC’s of DNA Saturday, Sept. 14 from Judy Russell, The Legal Genealogist at the Chester County Historical Society. The lecture topics include Beyond X and Y: The Promise and Pitfalls of Autosomal DNA Testing. The lecture runs from 9 a.m. to noon and includes light refreshments. Tickets — $30 for CCHS members and $40 for non-members — are available here.
• The Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association is holding a POW/MIA Wall of Honor dedication on Sept. 19. An empty chair will be unveiled, serving as a constant reminder of the sacrifices made for our country by these American servicemen and women who are still missing. The event is 10 to 10:30 a.m. at 4599 W. Chester Pike in Newtown Square. The public is invited to attend.
• The Chester County Health Department is offering flu vaccinations at schools and community locations from September through November. Clinics are open to the entire community without an appointment. Department personnel will be at Unionville High School on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 3-7 p.m., and at Kennett High School on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 2:30-6:30 p.m. The Health Department will have flu vaccine available for people as young as six months old, and special high-dose vaccine for seniors. People with private health insurance should bring their insurance card for billing. The flu vaccine will be available at no charge to children with State Medical Insurance and for all people who do not have health insurance.
