Police Log Sept. 4: Drugs, retail theft, sexual assault

State police said a Southern Chester County Regional Police officer and vehicle were involved in a two-car crash at Newark Road and Pine Street in New Garden Township at 10:54 p.m. on Aug. 30. According to the report, the police car was driving south on Newark Road when a northbound vehicle turned left into the path of the patrol car. The civilian driver — identified as Baltaza Carrillo-Zavala — was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained head injuries, accord to the report. He was taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment. The police officer was not injured.

A traffic stop for an expired registration led to the arrest of an unnamed motorist on drug and weapons charges in New Garden Township on Aug. 30. The driver, who police only identified as being from West Chester, was found to be in possession of marijuana, paraphernalia and a loaded pistol with no carry permit. The traffic stop was made at 9:55 a.m. on Route 1 near Bancroft Road.

State police took two women into custody on retail theft charges at the East Marlborough Township Walmart when the pair allegedly attempted to remove items from the self-checkout aisle without first scanning them. The suspects were not identified in the report.

Police confiscated six plastic containers of marijuana from a car that had been stopped for traffic violations shortly before 3 a.m. on Aug. 31. The incident happened on East Baltimore Pike at Webb Barn Lane in East Marlborough Township. The driver — unidentified in the report — failed field sobriety tests, police said. He was transported to Jennersville Regional Hospital for a blood draw, which he refused to submit to and was then transported to PSP Avondale, processed, debriefed and released.

State police said a 13-year-old boy admitted to sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl in East Marlborough Township on Sept. 1. According to the report, the boy’s mother came home to find her son and the daughter of a family friend partially clothed. The girl’s mother called police after the daughter said the boy had undressed her. The boy confessed to sexually assaulting girl, police said, and charges were to be filed.

An unidentified woman faces retail theft charges following a Sept. 2 incident at the Walmart in East Marlborough Township. Loss Prevention personnel had detained the suspect who, they said, attempted to steal jewelry by concealing it in her purse. She was transported to PSP Avondale where she was processed and released.
