Movie night at Uptown!

It’s summer movie time at Uptown! On June 17 the show is A Few Good Men. Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson star in this military legal drama. It’s classic Jack with a few great smiles. Can you handle the truth? Films begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door.

Penn State Extension Chester County 4-H center will hold a babysitting class on July 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the extension office at 601 Westtown Road, Suite 370 in West Chester. The class is designed to help prepare youths ages 11 and older for babysitting. The cost is $35 and includes a 4-H membership. Registration for current members is $10. Learn about the mills of Delaware County at the Newlin Grist Mill. In partnership with the Delaware County Planning Department, Newlin Grist Mill opened this temporary exhibit at the beginning of May. It offers visitors a glimpse into the region’s early industrial history and helps the public understand what a mill is, how it works, and what it makes. The exhibit features numerous photographs of local mills, archaeological materials from Newlin Grist Mill’s excavations, artifacts on loan from other local organizations and individuals, and maps showing the locations of numerous mills in Delaware County at different periods in time. The “Mills of Delaware County” exhibit runs through the end of the year and can be viewed free of charge during regular Visitor Center hours (9 a.m-4 p.m. daily). Neumann University is offering a Safe Schools Initiative, a presentation from the United States Secret Service. The date is Wednesday, June 19, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some of the topics include the prevention of school shootings, how to identify concerning and prohibited behaviors and threat response.  This special training presentation will educate local school administrators, counselors, psychologists, resource officers, law enforcement officers, fire department personnel, and emergency management personnel on how to keep students safe. Harp Guitarist Muriel Anderson will perform with special guests David Feder and Tim Farrell opening the show at the Kennett Flash on Saturday, June 8. Tickets are available at www.kennettflash.org. Advance tickets are $25, and tickets at the door will be $30. Doors open at 7 p.m. Showtime is 8 p.m.

Wednesday, June 19 is the return of the free summer concert series at Anson B. Nixon Park in Kennett Square.  Western Centuries from Seattle, Wash. will be performing original country music done a little different, but a little right. Think George Jones meets The Band meets Motown. Kennett Brewing Company will offer dinner on June 19. The concerts, which will run every Wednesday night through Aug. 7, are rain or shine events and are only canceled in the event of severe weather. Shows start promptly at 7 p.m. and run until 9 p.m. with a brief intermission.
