Police Log May 1: Fatal crash, excessive speed, DUI

State police from the Avondale barracks are investigating a fatal traffic accident on Lenape Road in Pocopson Township on April 30. Shortly before 8:30 a.m., a trooper came upon a single vehicle crash. Police determined that the Honda Pilot was heading north when it left the roadway, struck several trees  and partially rolled over. The as yet unidentified woman driver succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash, the report said.

Police from the Avondale barracks said Michele A. Huggins, 54, of Oxford, was cited following a one-vehicle accident on Route 1 in New Garden Township. According to the report, Huggins overcompensated when the Ford Escape she was driving began fishtailing. The Escape went off the roadway, into a ditch and rolled over, coming to rest on its roof. Huggins was not hurt, police said but she was cited for driving at an unsafe speed and for careless driving. The accident happened at 8:22 a.m. on April 20.

Southern Chester County Regional Police

Police said Wayne H. Carr, 67, of Kennett Square, was arrested and charged with DUI and a related traffic offense on April 5. According to the police report, the vehicle Carr was driving was stopped for failing to stay in its lane of travel and for crossing into the opposing lane. Carr was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and submitted to a chemical test of his breath that showed a blood alcohol level of 0.103 percent. He was processed and later released pending issuance of a summons. The incident happened at 1 a.m., in the 1100 block of Newark Road, in New Garden Township.
