This week at Street Road Artists Space is co-hosting the 100 Women of Brandywine Valley which is an excellent charity event.I Let's focus on Street Road. I had been meaning to visit this unassuming space off of Street Road (just past Rt. 41) run by artist, Emily Artinian, for a while. The trip was long overdue.
Artinian graciously hosted the 100 Women Charity Event at Street Road on Tuesday, and I was thrilled to pick her brain about the space, its’ tenants, and it’s upcoming exhibition. “Our tenants across the way are carnival employees,” she says. My ears perked up, because I know nothing about the carnival, and they occupy the building across the street. Evidently, they use the space to repair and create structures for their events and while there has not been any formal collaboration, they have included a few pieces in some Street Road exhibitions. “In the summertime, they’ll have tools, parts, pieces, sprinkled all over the lawn!” Artinian chuckles. In addition to the sleek, NYC style white walled space that Street Road, and the carnival work space, a bright mural by celebrated illustrator/artist Luyi Wang completes the campus.
Currently, Street Road is accepting submissions for their “Seven Million Acres: Pride of Place” project. The project, which Artinian has creatively marketed on tiny post it note pads, encourages contributors to mail or email a photo and description to Street Road by March 31st. Include your name, town/municipality, and automatically participate in the exhibition of the project from April 13 - September 30th. I look forward to the exhibition, as Artinian says she will make room for all contributors who participate.
This Friday, Gallery Duo and up-and-coming Chadds Ford publication, Junxion, will co-host “Synergies”, a collaborative exhibition featuring Alessandra Manzotti, Sus Iserbyt. Stop by for the opening reception this Friday, March 8th from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Enjoy refreshments provided by Montrachet Foods, learn more about Junxion, and check out some fantastic collaborative work by the founders of Gallery DUO. The Fine Art/ Fine Craft: CCAA & Chester County Craft Guild Juried exhibition is now on display at Chester County Art Association. This exhibition runs through April 4th. Reception held TONIGHT, March 7th from 5 - 7 .pm.
If you’re an artist in the area looking for opportunities to showcase your work, a few call for entries are coming up. First, Paragon Framing & Art in Phoenixville, PA is looking for artists to submit work inspired by nature for their Flora and Fauna exhibition. Deadline for submission is April 3rd.
Goggleworks, the impressive artist/small business co-op space in Reading, PA is also accepting submission for their 13th Annual Juried Exhibition. Submissions of all media types are encouraged, and the exhibition aims to showcase contemporary work from artists all over the country. You have three days to submit to this one though, as the deadline is March 10! Best of luck, artists!
