The kids, boys, ages 6, 8, and 11, were found unsupervised a sleep in the vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado. Nuse and his wife Brandy Nuse were in a Walmart shopping, the release said.

According to the DA’s office, the incident happened 3:45 a.m. on Dec. 24 when state police noticed the truck running and a 9mm pistol in plain sight on the front console. The boys were in the back seat. When troopers woke them, they said they didn’t know where their parents were. At 4:15 a.m. the couple exited the store and returned to the Silverado.

Brandy Nuse is the mother; Harold Nuse is her husband but not the biological father of the three boys. Both were arrested and the boys turned over to family members.

During the investigation, one the boys told detectives that Harold Nuse had been feeding them crystal methamphetamine. Harold Nuse was subsequently charged with drug delivery, endangering the welfare of children and other offenses. Bail was set at $75,000.

“Guns and drugs don’t mix with children,” Hogan said in the press release. “Instead of caring for these children, the defendant was putting them at grave risk of death and serious injury.
